Michael Jackson biopic 'Michael' to hold early IMAX screenings before theatrical release
Michael Jackson biopic 'Michael' will debut in limited IMAX screenings before its nationwide release

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic Michael will receive limited early screenings ahead of its nationwide theatrical release, distributor Lionsgate has announced.
The film will be shown in IMAX and other premium large-format cinemas on April 22, two days before its wider release on April 24. Tickets for the early screenings will go on sale on March 11 at 6 a.m. PT and 9 a.m. ET.
Michael is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, in the lead role. The film follows the singer’s life and career, focusing on both his musical achievements and his personal journey.
According to the official description, the film explores Jackson’s life “beyond the music”. It traces his development from his early years as the lead singer of the Jackson 5 through his rise as a global performer.
The story examines his growth as an artist and the ambition that shaped his career, including moments from his personal life and performances from his early solo career.
Jaafar Jackson portrays the singer and recreates several of Michael Jackson’s performances and signature movements in the film.
The cast also includes Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Miles Teller as John Branca. Nia Long plays Katherine Jackson, while Kendrick Sampson appears as Quincy Jones and Larenz Tate portrays Motown founder Berry Gordy.
Lionsgate said the early screenings are intended to showcase the film’s music and performances in large-format cinemas.
Kevin Grayson of Lionsgate said the screenings were designed to highlight the scale of the production. “For Michael Jackson’s fans, Michael is the cinematic event they’ve been waiting for — the movie captures both the soul and the spectacle of the boy who became the King of Pop,” he said.
The limited screenings will take place shortly before the film’s wider cinema debut later in April.
