The team behind Prime Video’s new series Young Sherlock says they are hopeful the show will continue into a second season, allowing them to further develop the complex relationship between Sherlock Holmes and his future nemesis, James Moriarty.

The series reimagines the legendary detective as a 19-year-old still discovering his abilities, long before becoming the master sleuth audiences know from Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories. Starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Holmes, the show explores the character’s formative years at Oxford and the events that begin shaping his investigative instincts.

Producers say one of the central ideas behind the show is presenting Holmes and Moriarty as peers who initially connect before their famous rivalry takes shape. By focusing on their early relationship, the series offers a fresh take on the iconic conflict that has defined countless adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes stories.

Rather than portraying Holmes as the fully formed genius seen in most adaptations, Young Sherlock follows a more impulsive and inexperienced version of the character who is still learning how to channel his intelligence. A murder case at Oxford pulls him into a wider conspiracy, pushing him toward the path that will eventually define his career as a detective.

The eight-episode first season debuted on Prime Video on March 4, 2026. While the streamer has not yet officially announced a renewal, the producers say there is plenty of story left to tell, particularly as Holmes and Moriarty move closer to becoming the legendary adversaries known in the classic canon.
