QUETTA:

Unidentified attackers hurled a hand grenade at a residential labour quarters in Ward No 2 of Pasni town, a coastal area in Balochistan's Gwadar district, seriously injuring five workers from Sindh province late Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred as the labourers, employed in construction projects linked to Gwadar Port and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), were resting in their quarters. According to police sources, assailants, believed to have approached on motorbikes, lobbed the grenade, causing a powerful explosion that partially damaged the building and wounded the occupants.

All five injured individuals, hailing from districts such as Larkana and Qambar Shahdadkot in Sindh, were rushed to the local hospital in Pasni. Initial reports indicate that two remain in critical condition, while the other three are stable after receiving first aid.

Security forces swiftly cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Preliminary inquiries suggest the attack may be linked to separatist groups active in Balochistan, which have repeatedly targeted development projects and non-local workers in the region to disrupt ongoing infrastructure initiatives.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that search operations are underway across the area, with raids being conducted to apprehend suspects.

This latest violence forms part of a worrying pattern of attacks in Balochistan. In recent months, the province has witnessed multiple incidents targeting civilians, labourers, and security personnel.
