A Florida woman has been charged with attempted murder and multiple assault offences after allegedly firing shots at the Los Angeles home of singer Rihanna earlier this week.

Ivanna Ortiz, 35, from Orlando, faces one count of attempted murder, nine counts of assault with a firearm, two counts of shooting into an inhabited dwelling and one count of shooting at a motor vehicle, according to court records.

Ortiz appeared briefly in court in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday wearing a blue jail jumpsuit. She did not enter a plea during the hearing, and her arraignment has been scheduled for March 26.

She is currently being held on bail set at $1.8 million and has been ordered to stay away from Rihanna and her partner, hip-hop artist ASAP Rocky.

Los Angeles police said the shooting occurred early Sunday afternoon outside the singer’s residence in Beverly Crest, a neighbourhood in Los Angeles. Authorities allege that Ortiz fired several shots from a parked vehicle.

No injuries were reported. However, bullets struck the property, an Airstream trailer parked at the home and a neighbouring residence, according to a law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the case.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman addressed the incident outside the courthouse.

"I want everyone to understand, in this county, that you should absolutely feel safe in your residence and in your neighborhood and in your community. That safety is something that we will work incredibly hard to protect," Hochman said.

"When an individual comes into our community and decides to shoot it up, that individual will be arrested and held fully accountable for her actions."

Authorities said Rihanna was at home during the incident along with ASAP Rocky, their three children, Rihanna’s mother and staff members. Two people living in the neighbouring house struck by gunfire were also listed as victims in the complaint.

Police said Ortiz was arrested in Sherman Oaks after officers tracked a white Tesla linked to the shooting. Officers reportedly recovered an AR-15-style rifle, ammunition and a blonde wig from the vehicle. Investigators said the motive remains under investigation.
