Traffic plan announced for Youm-e-Ali procession in Karachi

Procession to start from Nishtar Park at 1pm; MA Jinnah Road and parts of Saddar closed for security

KARACHI:

Several key arteries in Karachi will remain closed on Wednesday as the main procession marking the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (RA) is taken out from Nishtar Park.

According to the Karachi Traffic Police, the procession will emerge from Nishtar Park at 1pm and conclude at Hussainia Iraniyan Imambargah in Kharadar after passing through its designated route.

Traffic police authorities said MA Jinnah Road from Guru Mandir to Tower and Saddar Road from Empress Market to Regal Chowk will remain closed for traffic due to security arrangements. They have announced alternative routes for commuters. Motorists coming from Nazimabad can turn right at Lasbela Chowk towards Nishtar Road via Garden to reach their destinations. Those travelling from Liaquatabad can proceed from Teen Hatti towards Lasbela Chowk or turn left towards Central Jail (Martin Road).

Vehicles moving from Hasan Square towards PP Chowrangi can use Kashmir Road via New Town, Sharea Quaideen via Society Light Signal, or the Jail Flyover to Teen Hatti and Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).

Commuters travelling from Sharea Faisal towards Numaish via Sharea Quaideen have been advised to turn right from Society Light Signal towards Kashmir Road and Jail Flyover.

Traffic heading from Central Jail Gate on Jamshed Road towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted via Bahadur Yar Jang Road, Soldier Bazaar, Holy Family Hospital and the Coast Guard route. Vehicles from Manghopir Road and Pak Colony heading to MA Jinnah Road can use Nishtar Road via Garden Zoo and Ranchore Line.

Traffic from Aga Khan III Road can proceed towards Gul Plaza and Aurangzeb Market via Uncle Saria Hospital, or use the Coast Guard and Holy Family Hospital route.

The traffic police said commercial traffic from Super Highway, Gulberg and Liaquatabad heading towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No.10 towards Nazimabad Chowrangi No.2, and then routed via Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Sher Shah and Mauripur. The same route will be used for return traffic.

Similarly, commercial traffic entering the city from the National Highway will be directed via Sharea Faisal, Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hasan Square, Liaquatabad No.10 and Nazimabad Chowrangi No.2, before proceeding towards Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Sher Shah and Mauripur.

No vehicles will be allowed beyond Guru Mandir Chowk on the procession route, and traffic will be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jang Road, Soldier Bazaar and Lasbela Chowk.

Entry of all vehicles on MA Jinnah Road will remain prohibited except those carrying official procession stickers on their windshields. Vehicles distributing sabeel, niyaz or tabarruk will only be allowed to enter the procession route from Tower, while parking along the procession route will remain strictly prohibited.
