Pokopia reveals tragic backstory behind pale ghostly Peakychu
Pokopia explains Peakychu’s pale appearance, revealing the Pikachu lost its electricity helping sick friends

The newly released Pokémon life simulation game Pokopia has revealed the story behind Peakychu, a pale white Pikachu that drew widespread speculation before the game’s launch.
Peakychu’s ghost-like appearance had led some fans to question whether the character might represent a ghost version of Pikachu or a new form of the creature.
However, details in the game’s Pokédex entry provide an explanation tied to the character’s past actions during the events leading up to Pokopia.
According to the Pokédex description, Peakychu used up its electrical power while helping sick friends during a difficult period referenced in the game’s narrative. The entry states that the prolonged use of electricity altered the Pokémon’s physical structure.
As a result of this overuse, Peakychu can no longer generate electricity. The change also affected the size of its tail, which is described as having shrunk.
In Pikachu species, the tail typically acts as a receiver for electrical energy, similar to a lightning rod, storing electricity that is later held in the creature’s cheeks.
Despite these physical changes and its inability to produce electricity, Peakychu is still listed in the Pokédex as an electric-type Pokémon.
The information suggests that Peakychu is not treated as a new gameplay form comparable to alternate transformations seen with other Pokémon, such as Rotom’s appliance forms. Because the character has exhausted its typical combat ability, Peakychu is not portrayed as a battler in the same way as standard Pikachu.
Before release, fans had discussed theories that the pale character might represent a ghost-type Pokémon or the spirit of a Pikachu that had died. The Pokédex explanation instead frames the character as one whose appearance changed after using its abilities to assist others during a crisis.
Pokopia introduces the character within a broader story about rebuilding and caring for Pokémon following difficult events affecting the game’s setting.
