Daniel Vávra has stepped down as creative director of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 to focus on developing a film adaptation of the franchise.

The co-founder of Warhorse Studios and long-time creative lead on the Kingdom Come series is shifting his responsibilities away from direct game development.

According to CzechCrunch, Vávra will now concentrate on adapting the role-playing game for live action, including writing the script and overseeing the project’s narrative direction to ensure it remains faithful to the original story.

Warhorse Studios chief executive Martin Frývaldský confirmed the leadership change in comments to CzechCrunch. “Dan has a new role. That’s the creation of the Kingdom Come movie.”

Frývaldský explained that the studio has been broadening the Kingdom Come brand beyond video games for some time. “We have been moving the Kingdom Come brand away from video games for some time now,” he said.

“So far we have been in comics, concerts, and tourism, but the film has attracted us the most. That is why Dan and I are working on getting it onto the screen or the big screen. There is also a draft script.”

Vávra is reportedly writing the draft script himself, maintaining direct involvement in shaping the adaptation. While he will no longer oversee day-to-day creative direction on the game, he remains with Warhorse Studios in a new capacity.

“Getting Kingdom Come to the screen or the screen in the next few years is another milestone that we want to achieve, and that is Dan’s new role. You won’t see him in the office every day anymore, but in a broader sense, he is still part of Warhorse,” Frývaldský confirmed.
