Dax Shepard says he neglected Kristen Bell on Valentine’s Day
Dax Shepard reveals he focused Valentine’s efforts on daughters, admitting Kristen Bell received less attention

Actor and podcast host Dax Shepard has shared that he unintentionally sidelined his wife, Kristen Bell, during Valentine’s Day celebrations this year, choosing instead to dedicate most of his efforts to their children.
Speaking on a recent episode of his “Armchair Expert” podcast, Shepard explained that he views his family collectively as his Valentines, including Bell and their daughters, Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 11. However, he admitted that the majority of his time and energy went toward creating a special experience for the children.
Shepard described putting several hours into preparing personalized gestures for his daughters. These included handmade cards featuring drawings and heartfelt messages, as well as heart-shaped pool floaties that he inflated and arranged himself.
While reflecting on the day, Shepard acknowledged that Bell’s experience may not have matched expectations. He hinted that she had “a less than exciting Valentine’s Day,” suggesting that his focus on the children came at the expense of time spent with her.
The actor also noted that his mother, Laura Labo, was visiting during the holiday weekend, adding to the demands on his attention. He candidly admitted that both his mother and Bell were “neglected” as he concentrated on making the day memorable for his daughters.
Despite this, Shepard expressed confidence that Bell understood his intentions. He suggested that from her perspective, seeing him invest so much effort into their children may have been meaningful in itself. His podcast co-host, Monica Padman, echoed this idea, remarking that Shepard’s actions could be interpreted as a Valentine’s gesture in their own way.
Shepard and Bell, who married in 2013, have frequently spoken publicly about their relationship, often sharing candid and humorous insights into their marriage. Their openness has occasionally sparked debate, including reactions to past comments and social media posts that some audiences found controversial.
Earlier this year, singer Cher made headlines after joking on Shepard’s podcast that Bell might be the “better half” in their relationship. Shepard later responded lightheartedly, saying he and Bell found the remark amusing.
The couple continues to present a united front, often emphasizing honesty and humor as key elements of their long-standing relationship, even when navigating public scrutiny.
