PlayStation has shut down Bluepoint Games, the studio known for its remakes of Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The closure affects around 70 employees. Bluepoint Games operated under PlayStation’s portfolio of first-party developers and had most recently been linked to an unannounced live-service project set in the God of War universe. That project was reportedly cancelled before it was publicly revealed.

In a statement to Bloomberg, a PlayStation spokesperson said, “Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftsmanship.”

The spokesperson added that the decision followed “a recent business review”.

Bluepoint Games was founded in 2006 and acquired by PlayStation in 2021. The studio built a reputation for high-profile remakes and technical support work on major titles.

Its remake of Demon’s Souls launched alongside the PlayStation 5 console and was widely recognised for its visual overhaul and faithful adaptation of the original game.

The company also developed the remake of Shadow of the Colossus and contributed to the development of God of War Ragnarök.

The closure comes amid continued restructuring within parts of the video game industry, with studios reviewing ongoing projects and operational costs.

While no further details were provided about the decision, the end of Bluepoint Games marks the loss of a studio associated with several critically regarded PlayStation releases.

PlayStation has not announced whether affected staff will be offered roles elsewhere within the company.
