Amanda Seyfried admits she didn’t know she was a producer on ‘The Housemaid’ and ‘didn’t do s— to make that movie’
Amanda Seyfried revealed she didn’t know she was credited as producer on ‘The Housemaid’ until weeks into filming

Amanda Seyfried has become one of the biggest draws at the box office this year with The Housemaid, which has earned a reported 374 million dollars globally on a modest 35 million dollar budget. While promoting the film on “The Graham Norton Show,” Seyfried admitted that her executive producer credit was largely a vanity title, saying she only acted in the film and had no involvement in its production.
Seyfried explained that she only noticed the credit three weeks into filming, when she saw her name listed on the call sheet. “Executive producer? I didn’t sign up for that,” she told the show, noting that her agent had negotiated the title. She added, “It was one of those vanity credits, because I didn’t do anything to make that movie. I only acted in it.”
The film stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie, a young woman who becomes a live-in housemaid for Seyfried’s character, Nina Winchester, and her husband Andrew Winchester, played by Brandon Skelnar. The story follows Millie as she navigates the dangerous secrets of the wealthy couple, creating tension and suspense that has captivated audiences worldwide.
Seyfried also spoke about the upcoming sequel, based on Freida McFadden’s “The Housemaid’s Secret.” While her character is not part of the sequel’s core story, Seyfried expressed a desire to make a cameo appearance. “I almost guarantee that I’m gonna be some small cameo in it, because it’s about Syd and her working for a new family,” she said, referring to Sweeney’s character.
The actress contrasted her experience with other producers in the industry, praising those, like Margot Robbie, who take an active role in developing films. Seyfried called her own producer credit “intensely fun” but clarified that it did not reflect creative involvement beyond her performance.
With The Housemaid continuing to perform strongly at the box office and a sequel already in development, Seyfried remains at the centre of the franchise’s growing success, even if her role behind the scenes was more symbolic than practical.
