Blake Garrett, the former child actor best known for his role in the 2006 family film How to Eat Fried Worms, has died at the age of 33. His death was confirmed by his family.
Garrett passed away on Sunday in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he had been living in recent years. An official cause of death has not yet been determined, and authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
According to his mother, Garrett had recently sought medical help after experiencing severe pain and was diagnosed with shingles, a viral infection that can cause intense nerve discomfort. She said the family believes his death may have been accidental, possibly linked to attempts to manage the pain, though nothing has been confirmed.
Garrett began acting at a young age, appearing in stage productions before joining the touring show Barney’s Colorful World, Live! His most notable screen role came when he portrayed Plug in How to Eat Fried Worms, an adaptation of the popular children’s book. The film’s young cast later received recognition for their ensemble performance.
In adulthood, Garrett stepped away from the entertainment industry and focused on his personal life. His family shared that he had been sober for several years and was working toward stability outside of Hollywood.
