God of War casts Callum Vinson as Atreus in Prime Video series adaptation

Callum Vinson joins Prime Video’s 'God of War' as Atreus alongside Ryan Hurst in the live-action series adaptation

Prime Video has officially cast Callum Vinson as Atreus in its highly anticipated television adaptation of PlayStation’s blockbuster video game God of War.

Vinson will portray the young son of Kratos, played by Ryan Hurst, in the mythology-inspired action drama produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.

Atreus is depicted as a skilled archer who grew up isolated in a remote forest cabin, largely raised by his mother, Faye. Following her death, the boy is forced into an unfamiliar relationship with his emotionally distant father. The series will explore their evolving bond as they embark on a perilous journey to honor Faye’s final wish, blending emotional storytelling with epic adventure.

The show comes from writer, showrunner, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore, known for acclaimed projects such as Outlander and For All Mankind. The adaptation has already secured a two-season order, with pre-production currently underway in Vancouver — signaling strong confidence from the studio in the franchise’s streaming potential.

Vinson joins a growing ensemble that includes Max Parker as Heimdall, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok. Frederick E.O. Toye is set to direct the first two episodes.

The role marks another major television credit for Vinson, who is also set to appear in Season 3 of Netflix’s The Night Agent. He previously starred in Long Bright River and Chucky, and recently wrapped production on the Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.

With a beloved gaming legacy and an expanding cast, God of War is shaping up to be one of Prime Video’s most closely watched upcoming adaptations.
