Kingdom Hearts remake and Kingdom Hearts 4 tipped for 2027 in new Square Enix leak

Insider claims Square Enix is preparing Kingdom Hearts 4 and remake of 2002 original titled Kingdom Hearts Relux

Square Enix may be preparing a significant return to the Kingdom Hearts series, with a new report suggesting two major releases could arrive in 2027.

The information comes from insider eXtas1s, who has previously shared details about projects including a Dragon Quest 7 remake.

The claim does not focus solely on Kingdom Hearts 4, but also points to a full remake of the original 2002 title, currently referred to as Kingdom Hearts Relux.

According to the source, the proposed remake would be more than an HD remaster. It is described as a complete rebuild featuring new assets, modern lighting and updated textures while keeping the colourful visual identity of the first game.

The approach is said to resemble the work seen in Crisis Core Reunion and Dragon Quest Treasures, which were reportedly cited internally at Tose Software as visual reference points. Tose Software is expected to handle development while Square Enix concentrates on Kingdom Hearts 4.

The report suggests the remake originated from a cancelled mobile project. Existing assets and environments are said to have been reused as the basis for a more ambitious console release.

Content would largely follow the structure of the original game, but with several additions. A Disney World inspired by The Jungle Book, previously removed from the first release, is expected to appear. Traverse Town could receive new areas, and Riku may become playable with sequences showing his actions during Sora’s journey.

Kingdom Hearts Relux was reportedly planned as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive before being moved to a wider multiplatform strategy. The release window is now claimed to be late 2026 or spring 2027, with Kingdom Hearts 4 targeting winter 2027.

The possibility of two Kingdom Hearts titles in the same year is being linked to the series’ 25th anniversary, although the information remains unconfirmed by Square Enix.
