Guerrilla Games has officially unveiled Horizon Hunters Gathering, a cooperative multiplayer title set in the universe of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. The game is in development for PlayStation 5 and PC and represents the studio’s first dedicated online experience within the franchise.

Horizon Hunters Gathering is described as a co-op action game in which up to three players become Hunters tasked with defending the American West from dangerous machines.

Players will embark on hunts to track and dismantle mechanical creatures in combat that Guerrilla characterises as “tactical, reactive, and deeply skill-based.” The project adopts a more stylised visual approach, closer to an animated film than the mainline series.

At launch the roster will feature three Hunters, each with distinct weapons and playstyles, with plans to expand the lineup over time. One character fights with a rocket-powered hammer, another relies on a spear, and a third specialises in the bow.

Battles retain the series focus on targeting specific machine parts, while allowing players to combine abilities for coordinated assaults. The studio compared the concept to blending Horizon with the cooperative spirit of Monster Hunter, delivered at a faster pace.

Hunters can take on roles such as healer or damage dealer, encouraging support, tank, or tactician builds. A roguelite system offers randomly earned perks during runs, with success depending on finding effective combinations of upgrades.

The game includes a narrative campaign that can be played solo with NPC allies or with friends and is confirmed to be fully canon. Guerrilla said the story will introduce new characters and mysteries and will be expanded with additional content.

Four large maps will be available at release, centred around a social hub called Hunters Gathering where players can meet, customise characters, and upgrade gear.

Two multiplayer modes were detailed: Machine Incursion, featuring waves of enemies within a shrinking arena, and Cauldron Descent, a multi-stage challenge set in underground facilities.

Horizon Hunters Gathering supports cross-play and cross-progression between PS5 and PC, with a closed playtest scheduled to begin later this month.
