At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, country artist Jelly Roll won the inaugural award for Best Contemporary Country Album for his record Beautifully Broken. Speaking to reporters backstage, Jelly Roll chose not to comment on political matters, saying he felt disconnected from current events due to his upbringing.
“People shouldn’t care to hear my opinion. I’m a dumb redneck,” he stated, explaining that growing up in a household affected by addiction left him unaware of political issues until his mid-20s. He added that although he refrained from speaking about politics during the ceremony, he plans to share his views in the coming week.
Reflecting on the significance of his Grammy win, Jelly Roll noted the genre’s growing influence in contemporary music, calling it a “tsunami” of country music over the past several years. He also discussed his personal journey with addiction, mental health, and weight loss, highlighting the importance of therapy, long-term lifestyle changes, and faith in his recovery process.
The artist emphasized focusing on personal growth and spiritual well-being rather than external political or cultural noise, sharing insights on how faith and perseverance have shaped his life.
