Flood relief: Danish government donates over Rs5m

Denmark was among the first donors during last year’s floods, contributing a total of Rs1.9 billion as relief.

As a part of its response to the disastrous floods in Sindh, the government of Denmark has donated Rs5.25 million to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said a press release issued by the Danish embassy on Friday.

The announcement was made during a meeting between NDMA Chairperson Zafar Iqbal Qadir and Danish Ambassador Uffe Wolffhechel at the NDMA Headquarters.

The ambassador expressed deep concern over the welfare of over 5.4 million flood victims, especially women and children.

He said that the Danish government was preparing a response plan based on “flash appeal” made jointly by the government of Pakistan and Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs last week.

“Our support to the flood victims is ongoing and we are working towards providing further assistance across Pakistan,” he added.

Qadir expressed his gratitude to Denmark for providing aid for the victims. He assured that the aid would be spent on the victims on an immediate basis.
