First look at the Fab Four in Sam Mendes’ ‘Beatles’ films

Sony reveals first look at ‘Beatles’ project, starring Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn and Barry Keoghan

Sony Pictures is assembling a star-studded lineup for its ambitious four-film Beatles project, with production already underway. Director Sam Mendes’ The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event will explore the lives of the legendary band through four separate movies, each focusing on a different member. Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan take on the iconic roles of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, respectively.

In a clever marketing move, Sony released four exclusive postcards featuring the first looks at the band members, hidden around the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts for students to discover. LIPA shared the news on Instagram, celebrating the band’s hometown and inviting students to take part in the unveiling.

The supporting cast includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, James Norton as Brian Epstein, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Harry Lloyd as George Martin, and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey. Screenplays are penned by Tony Award winner Jez Butterworth, Oscar winner Peter Straughan, and BAFTA and Tony Award winner Jack Thorne, with Neal Street Productions producing alongside Mendes, Pippa Harris, and Julie Pastor.

Announced at last year’s CinemaCon, Mendes described the four-film approach as an opportunity to understand the Beatles in depth. Sony film chief Tom Rothman emphasised the unprecedented nature of the project, praising the boldness of both the concept and its release strategy, which earned the director approval from Apple Corps, the band’s selective label.

The Beatles remain the best-selling music act of all time, and their cinematic retelling arrives amid a Hollywood trend of music biopics. Recent releases include Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, while Lionsgate plans its Michael Jackson film this April. Mendes’ project aims to offer fans a fresh and immersive view of the Fab Four, combining historical insight with a cinematic spectacle that Hollywood has yet to attempt.

The four films are scheduled to hit theaters in April 2028, promising a major event for Beatles fans and moviegoers alike, with Mendes leading a carefully curated cast and production team to bring the story of the Fab Four to the screen in unprecedented detail.
