Barry Keoghan has unveiled his Ringo Starr-inspired moptop hairstyle as preparations continue for an upcoming Beatles biopic directed by Sam Mendes.

The Saltburn actor is set to portray Starr in one of four interconnected films focused on the Fab Four. Each film will be told from the perspective of a different band member.

Keoghan’s film will centre on Starr, who, along with Paul McCartney, is one of the two surviving members of the group. Paul Mescal has been cast as McCartney.

Keoghan was photographed in London on January 28 sporting the 1960s-era hairstyle closely associated with the band.

The remaining roles have been filled by Harris Dickinson as John Lennon and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Lennon was murdered in December 1980, while Harrison died in November 2001.

Mendes has previously described the project as a “four-film cinematic event” that will collectively tell “the story of the greatest band in history”. The films are scheduled to be released simultaneously in cinemas in April 2028, following the project’s announcement at ComicCon 2025.

Keoghan confirmed in July that he had begun screen tests for the role. Speaking on BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast show, he said, “It’s great. I look amazing. I’m not even messing — I look amazing. I look more Ringo than Ringo looks Ringo.”

The actor has also spoken about meeting Starr in person. During an earlier appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Keoghan said, “I met him at his house, and he played the drums for me. He asked me to play, but I wasn’t playing the drums for Ringo.”

Discussing his preparation at the Fastnet Film Festival in May 2025, Keoghan said, “We’ve been in full camp for like 16 or 17 weeks now. It’s just an absolute joy.” He added that the process had included intensive practice and resulted in blisters on his hands.
