Justine Triet, the Oscar- and Palme d’Or-winning director of Anatomy of a Fall, has set her next feature film, a psychological thriller titled Fonda.
The project marks Triet’s first full English-language film and is already attracting attention due to its high-profile cast and international backing.
According to industry reports, Fonda will star Mia Goth, Andrew Scott, Frank Dillane, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, with Oscar winner Allison Janney currently in talks to join the ensemble. The film is scheduled to begin production later this spring and will be introduced to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin, held alongside the Berlin International Film Festival in February.
Triet has written the screenplay herself, with the story described as a psychological thriller set within a seemingly idyllic, enclosed environment. The narrative reportedly explores the fragile boundaries of mental stability as grief and obsession begin to take hold, positioning the film as a tense and character-driven project.
The film is being co-produced and co-financed by Paris-based m2k Films and StudioCanal. Triet is reuniting with producers Marie-Ange Luciani and David Thion, continuing the creative partnerships behind Anatomy of a Fall. Sales duties will be handled by m2k Films as the project seeks international distribution.
Anatomy of a Fall premiered in 2023 to widespread acclaim, winning the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2024. The film also earned a Best Actress nomination for Sandra Hüller and contributed to Triet’s rise as one of Europe’s most in-demand filmmakers.
Additional casting announcements for Fonda are expected in the coming months as the project moves closer to production.
