BAHAWALPUR:

Panic spread among a large crowd of visitors at the Bahawalpur Zoo on a recent holiday after seven monkeys escaped from their enclosure.

The incident occurred during a public holiday when the zoo was particularly crowded.

The zoo staff began feeding the monkeys in their enclosure.

The process reportedly startled the animals due to the noise and commotion from the large crowd of onlookers, causing seven monkeys to flee their cage.

The escape caused significant fear and unrest among the visiting public.

The staff immediately launched efforts to recapture the animals. They managed to quickly catch and return two smaller monkeys to the enclosure.

However, the remaining five monkeys ran amok within the zoo grounds, climbing trees and causing a disturbance.

Officials confirmed no tourists were harmed during the incident.

Curator of the Bahawalpur Zoo, Shahbaz Anwar, stated that the escaped monkeys were eventually subdued using tranquiliser darts.

While most were recaptured after being sedated, one monkey managed to scale the zoo wall before succumbing to the tranquilizer a short distance away. It was also recovered by the staff.

In response to the incident, zoo administration officials stated that disciplinary action will be taken against any staff members found negligent in their duties.
