Karachi to face temporary water shortfall during K-Electric maintenance

City's water supply will be reduced by 60 million gallons during the period, affecting Lyari, Saddar, Chanesar Town

KARACHI:

Residents in parts of Karachi are expected to face a temporary reduction in water supply on Friday, January 23, as K-Electric carries out annual maintenance work at the Dhabeji Pumping Station.

According to officials, K-Electric will implement an 11kV power shutdown at the pumping station from 10am to 6.30pm, with the overall shutdown lasting around eight and a half hours.

The suspension of electricity will affect the second and third phase pump houses, reducing the city’s water supply by approximately 60 million gallons during the maintenance period.

Under normal conditions, Karachi receives around 650 million gallons of water daily, but despite the temporary shortfall, about 590 million gallons will continue to be supplied to the city.

The Water Corporation said that the water supply would be partially affected in Lyari, Saddar and Chanesar Town.

Authorities have urged residents to use water responsibly during the outage to help manage the temporary disruption.

K-Electric said the maintenance work is necessary to ensure the long-term reliability of the pumping station and the city’s water supply system.
