Actor Timothy Busfield is receiving public support from his wife and former Thirtysomething costars as he faces child abuse–related charges in New Mexico. Dozens of character letters were recently submitted to the court, offering personal accounts meant to vouch for the Emmy winner’s integrity and conduct.

Busfield, who has denied the allegations against him, is accused of criminal sexual contact of a minor and child abuse connected to incidents involving two child actors. As the case proceeds, his legal team presented approximately 70 letters from family members, friends, and colleagues asking the court to consider his character while determining next steps.

Several of Busfield’s former Thirtysomething costars contributed letters in his defense, describing years of professional collaboration and personal trust. One former colleague wrote that Busfield was “delightful” and someone they “trusted completely,” adding that they never witnessed behavior that raised concern during their time working together.

Busfield’s wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, also submitted a deeply personal letter to the judge. In it, she described her husband as having “the strongest moral compass of any human I have ever known,” and pleaded, “Please, please take care of my sweet husband.”

A judge has since ruled that Busfield may be released while awaiting trial, though he must adhere to strict conditions, including limitations on contact with minors. The case remains ongoing as both sides prepare for further court proceedings.
