RAWALPINDI:

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on Monday arrested six people for placing a container on GT Road to sell construction material, causing traffic obstruction and encroachment.

According to an ICT administration spokesperson, action was initiated after complaints were received that a container had been illegally parked on the roadside and was being used as a sales point for construction material. The activity not only created encroachments but also obstructed the main road, affecting the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

The spokesperson said the container had been placed without permission and was being used as an unauthorised sales outlet. As a result of the operation, six individuals involved were arrested and shifted to the police lock-up. The container along with the construction material was also taken into custody.

Officials said GT Road is a major traffic artery, and any blockage causes serious inconvenience to daily commuters, public transport, and emergency services. They added that setting up containers, stalls, or sale points along roadsides without approval is a clear violation of the rules and will not be tolerated.

During the operation, the area was cleared to restore the smooth flow of traffic and remove obstacles from the road. Officials warned that similar actions would continue against encroachments and illegal roadside businesses in different parts of the city.

The administration appealed to citizens to discourage such activities by not purchasing construction material or other goods from unauthorised roadside points, as this encourages illegal setups and worsens traffic congestion. Citizens were advised to buy materials only from approved and designated outlets operating under legal permission.
