Nintendo shuts down adult-themed Animal Crossing island after five years
Nintendo has removed an adult-themed Animal Crossing island, ending five years of player access and content

Nintendo has officially removed an adult-themed island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons after it remained accessible for five years.
The island, created by user churip_ccc, gained attention for its mature content and became a popular destination for curious players and YouTubers alike.
The creator confirmed that Nintendo deleted the island just one day before a new game update. In a post translated by Automaton, churip_ccc expressed a mix of apology and humor toward Nintendo, writing, “To Nintendo, I apologize from the bottom of my heart. Or rather, thank you for turning a blind eye for more than five years.” The post also thanked visitors and streamers who showcased the island in videos.
The adult-themed island featured a range of mature locations, including a love hotel flanked by Gallant statues, neon palm trees used for censorship, strip clubs, brothels, adult shops, girl bars, smoking areas, and an Edo-era–inspired red-light district. Even the workers’ homes were customized to fit the island’s immersive adult environment.
While the island is no longer accessible in the game, video content of the island continues to circulate on platforms like YouTube, allowing players to view its unique design.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has long been known for its creative player-built islands, ranging from detailed natural landscapes to fan-made recreations of popular media. This incident highlights the boundaries Nintendo maintains regarding adult content within its family-friendly franchise.
Nintendo has not issued an official public statement beyond the removal, but the shutdown marks the end of one of the most controversial and widely discussed fan-made islands in Animal Crossing history.
