A two-year-old boy lost his life while his mother sustained injuries in Karachi after a speeding trailer hit the motorcycle they were riding near Old Mauripur Stop on Hawke’s Bay Road on Thursday.

The injured woman and the child were shifted to Civil Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead. The deceased was identified as Hammad, 2, while the injured woman was identified as Zainab, 25. The child’s father, Danish, 30, and his four-year-old daughter escaped unhurt.

According to police and family members, the family - residents of Khadda Market and originally hailing from Ranipur, Sindh - was returning home to Musharraf Colony when the trailer hit their motorcycle.

Relatives demand justice and question how long the children and innocent people will continue to fall victim to heavy vehicles on city roads.

Mauripur police reached the spot soon after the incident and arrested the driver, Ijaz Ali, son of Ahmed Ali. They also seized the vehicle involved in the accident. Further legal proceedings are under way.
