Zara Larsson fires back after White House uses ‘Lush Life’ in TikTok post
Zara Larsson has responded after the White House used her song ‘Lush Life’ in a TikTok following her ICE criticism

Swedish singer Zara Larsson has publicly responded after the White House used her 2015 hit Lush Life as the soundtrack to a TikTok video that appeared to counter her recent criticism of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The exchange has ignited heated discussion online as fans and commentators weigh in on both Larsson’s stance and the government’s use of her music.

Larsson’s pushback stems from a series of Instagram Story posts in which she condemned the immigration agency and stated she “f*cking hate[s] ICE” while expressing support for immigrants, trans people, welfare and other marginalised groups. Her statements came amid broader debates over immigration enforcement in the United States.

The TikTok from the White House took Larsson’s song and paired it with clips of President Donald Trump alongside text framing support for deportations, border security and ICE, a move interpreted by many as a direct response to Larsson’s criticism. Rather than addressing her points, the video flipped the narrative and celebrated immigration enforcement.

Larsson reacted by doubling down on her original message and reiterating her opposition to ICE’s policies, reinforcing the themes she shared in her Instagram posts. In her follow‑up messages she clarified that some lines in her original criticism referenced personal experience, including her partner’s difficulty entering the US due to a non‑violent conviction.

Supporters of the pop star have praised her for speaking out, while critics argue that artists should avoid political commentary.
