Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested in Florida on charges of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12 connected to a 2020 family vacation, and he has pleaded not guilty. Days later, both he and Kendra, 27, were charged in Arkansas with child endangerment and false imprisonment related to separate findings during a home investigation.

“It’s crazy to think this is happening again,” cousin Amy Duggar King told People, expressing shock and frustration that the family is facing another public legal crisis.

Life had appeared stable for the couple after their 2017 wedding and raising four young children in Arkansas, with neighbors describing Joseph as someone whose “kids are always up and down the sidewalks … playing like normal.” But the recent charges have highlighted how a public image of wholesomeness can mask darker issues, experts and critics say.
