Netflix is officially bringing Mystery Inc. to live action for the first time on television.

The streamer confirmed that its upcoming Scooby-Doo series is scheduled to begin filming in April 2026, marking a major new chapter for the long-running franchise.

First announced in March 2025, the project represents Scooby-Doo’s first-ever live-action TV adaptation, following decades of animated series and the early 2000s live-action films. The show is being produced by Warner Bros. Television in partnership with Netflix, with Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serving as writers and showrunners under their Midnight Radio banner. Greg Berlanti is also attached as an executive producer.

While Netflix has not officially revealed the title, production listings have referred to the series as Scooby-Doo: Origins, suggesting the show will focus on how the iconic mystery-solving group first came together.

According to Netflix’s synopsis, the eight-episode series will reimagine the franchise as an origin story set during the group’s final summer at camp. Shaggy and Daphne become involved in a mysterious case tied to a lost Great Dane puppy, alongside the analytical Velma and a mysterious new kid named Freddy. The case ultimately leads them into a dark mystery that threatens to expose their secrets.

Unlike earlier adaptations that leaned heavily into comedy, the series is expected to adopt a tone closer to Stranger Things, blending suspense, supernatural elements, and emotional storytelling while maintaining Scooby-Doo’s core identity.

Filming will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, with production expected to run through late 2026. Casting has not yet been announced, though reports indicate the series is seeking age-appropriate actors to portray the teenage characters.

With production timelines in mind, the Scooby-Doo live-action series is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2027.
