Sophie Turner has said she is open to returning to the Game of Thrones franchise following author George R.R. Martin’s recent comments confirming that multiple new projects — including potential sequels — are in development at HBO.

During a recent interview while promoting Amazon Prime Video’s Steal, Turner addressed the possibility of reprising her role as Sansa Stark. When asked directly about her interest in appearing in a sequel series, the actress responded cautiously, saying that while a return could be appealing, it would depend on the circumstances. She jokingly referenced compensation before adding that revisiting the role could be both challenging and exciting.

Turner also noted that she was largely satisfied with how Sansa’s storyline concluded at the end of Game of Thrones’ eighth and final season. Unlike many characters whose endings were met with criticism, Sansa was crowned Queen in the North, a resolution Turner described as positive and complete. She explained that because she felt her character received a strong conclusion, she is uncertain whether revisiting the role would be the right choice.

However, Turner stopped short of ruling out a return entirely. She said that any decision would depend on the quality of the project, explaining that she would need to see a script before committing. Turner acknowledged that while a sequel could be enjoyable, there is also a risk in attempting to recreate something that originally resonated so strongly with audiences.

Her comments follow George R.R. Martin’s recent confirmation that HBO currently has “five or six” Game of Thrones projects in development, some of which may be sequels. HBO has already expanded the franchise with prequel series such as House of the Dragon, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms also in development.

Although a sequel centered on Jon Snow, previously linked to Kit Harington, was reportedly shelved, Martin’s remarks have renewed speculation about future follow-up stories. Turner’s potential involvement may also be influenced by her upcoming commitments, including her starring role as Lara Croft in Amazon Prime Video’s forthcoming Tomb Raider adaptation.
