Disney has officially cast the lead roles for its live-action adaptation of Tangled, ending a months-long global search for the next Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.

Rising Australian actress Teagan Croft has been selected to portray Rapunzel, while Milo Manheim will take on the role of Flynn Rider, the charming outlaw who helps her escape the tower.

The film is being directed by Michael Gracey, known for The Greatest Showman and Better Man, and will retain the musical elements that made the 2010 animated original a fan favorite. The screenplay was written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, with Kristin Burr producing for Walt Disney Pictures.

According to sources, Disney conducted extensive auditions in both the United States and the United Kingdom, with finalists screen-testing in London in December. Studio executives were reportedly deliberate in their casting choices, aware of the high expectations surrounding a beloved animated classic that grossed $591 million worldwide and later spawned a successful Disney Channel series.

Croft is best known for her role as Raven in DC’s Titans, which ran for five seasons, and for starring in Netflix’s True Spirit, where she portrayed sailor Jessica Watson. Manheim gained widespread recognition through Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise and has also appeared in School Spirits and the stage revival of Little Shop of Horrors, showcasing his musical background.

The live-action Tangled is considered a high-profile project for Disney, as recent remakes have proven capable of major box office success. Casting for the film’s villain, Mother Gothel, has not yet been announced.
