007 First Light set for May 2026 as IO Interactive reveals release date, platforms and story details
IO Interactive’s James Bond game 007 First Light launches May 2026 with a new origin story and multi-platform release

IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman franchise, is developing a new James Bond video game titled 007 First Light, marking the first major Bond game release since 2012.
Originally announced in 2020 under the codename Project 007, the title was formally unveiled in 2025 and is scheduled to launch on May 27, 2026. The release follows a two-month delay from its initially planned March window.
007 First Light will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox Cloud, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is being positioned as a current-generation release, with no plans announced for older hardware.
On PC, the game will require a minimum of 16GB RAM, an Intel Core i5 9500K or equivalent processor, and a GTX 1660-class graphics card, with higher specifications recommended for improved performance.
The game features a completely original story set within the James Bond universe and focuses on Bond’s early career and entry into the double-0 programme. IO Interactive has confirmed that the character will not be based on any existing film portrayal.
In a previous interview, studio chief executive Hakan Abrak indicated that First Light is intended to introduce a younger version of Bond, with longer-term plans to expand the storyline further.
Preorders for 007 First Light include early access, exclusive outfits, a weapon skin, and digital cosmetic items. The game will be sold in Standard, Specialist, and Legacy editions, each offering additional physical or in-game bonuses.
Gameplay footage released since 2025 shows a mix of stealth, gunplay, and driving sequences, drawing comparisons to IO Interactive’s Hitman series. Trailers have also confirmed the presence of a new antagonist, Bawma, portrayed by Lenny Kravitz.
As development continues, IO Interactive has expanded its workforce to support the project ahead of launch.
