Gwyneth Paltrow has said she was removed from a film project following media coverage surrounding her divorce from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

The actor discussed the experience during a recent episode of Amy Poehler’s podcast, Good Hang, reflecting on how public reaction affected her career at the time.

Paltrow and Martin announced their separation in 2014 after nearly 11 years of marriage, describing it as a “conscious uncoupling.”

Although the divorce was finalised in 2016, the pair have remained on good terms and continue to co-parent their two children, Apple and Moses.

During the podcast, Paltrow said she had been scheduled to appear in a film shortly after the announcement but claimed the opportunity fell through due to press attention.

“There was a lot of harsh stuff in the press, and I think the distributor was like, ‘This might be too hot to touch,’” she said. Poehler responded, “Interesting. They were like, ‘We don’t need the heat?’” to which Paltrow agreed.

“So that was great!” Paltrow added. “Cause I was getting a divorce, and then I got fired off. It was so awesome.” She did not name the project or distributor involved.

Paltrow also addressed the reaction to the phrase “conscious uncoupling,” acknowledging why it resonated negatively with some people.

“I think the implicit learning is like, ‘Oh, f***.’ Like, they're saying I did something wrong, which of course was not the intention,” she said, adding that she understood why the language felt personal to others.

In a 2022 essay for British Vogue, Paltrow previously described the backlash as unexpected and overwhelming. However, during a 2023 Instagram Q&A, she said she felt proud of introducing the term, stating it helped some people maintain positive relationships with former partners.

Paltrow later married Brad Falchuk in 2018, while Martin went on to date actor Dakota Johnson before their split in 2024.
