Mickey Rourke slams $100K GoFundMe set up to help him avoid eviction

Mickey Rourke has spoken out against a nearly $100,000 GoFundMe fundraiser created in his name to help him avoid eviction, making it clear he did not authorise the campaign and does not want public financial assistance.

The Hollywood actor addressed the situation after the fundraiser began circulating online and quickly gaining traction.

The GoFundMe page claimed it was launched to help Rourke cover housing costs after he was allegedly served notice to pay more than $59,000 in back rent or vacate his Los Angeles home.

The organiser said the campaign had been created with Rourke’s permission and framed the situation as urgent, prompting fans to donate in support of the longtime actor.

The 73-year-old actor, best known for roles in The Wrestler, 9½ Weeks and Sin City, also stressed that the GoFundMe did not reflect how he wants to handle his personal affairs. “I didn’t approve it. I didn’t know about it,” he said, explaining that he takes pride in handling his own problems privately rather than seeking public help.

Rourke acknowledged that he has faced ups and downs over the years but made it clear that he does not want fans contributing money on his behalf. He also revealed that he planned to speak with a lawyer about how the fundraiser was set up using his name.

The controversy has sparked wider conversation online about celebrity finances, consent and the ethics of fundraising for public figures without their direct involvement, as Rourke continues to distance himself from the campaign and reiterate his opposition to it.
