Genshin Impact anime confirms production update after four years of silence
Genshin Impact anime progressing steadily, says combat designer Aquaria, with no official release date yet

After four years of silence, the official Genshin Impact anime has confirmed its current production status.
The announcement was made at Genshin FES 2026 in Shanghai, China, by the game’s combat designer, Aquaria, who reassured fans that the series is "progressing steadily." However, no official release date has been set for the open-world anime adaptation.
"Rest assured, it's in the works," Aquaria told attendees. "There are no unexpected issues, no instability, everything is progressing steadily." The anime is being produced by Ufotable, the studio behind Demon Slayer.
Aquaria also provided insight into the development process of Genshin Impact itself. She explained that even a minor game update takes at least six months to develop, while a major update can take a year and a half or longer.
This timeline accounts for tasks including camera work, animated cutscenes, concept designs, revisions, voice recordings, and programming. Fans had previously assumed updates were completed in six weeks, but the reality requires far more time.
The same complexities apply to anime adaptations, particularly those based on mobile games with ongoing stories and expanding character rosters. Projects such as Solo Levelling Season 3 or Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 demonstrate the challenges of timely releases.
Since the anime’s announcement, Genshin Impact’s world has expanded significantly beyond Mondstadt, and Hoyoverse has launched additional titles, including Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero. Meanwhile, Ufotable’s focus remains on the theatrical conclusion to Demon Slayer, which began with the release of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle in 2025.
Fans will have to remain patient, as no further release details have been shared. The Genshin Impact anime continues its production quietly, promising a faithful adaptation of the ever-growing game world.
