Over 50 divorce cases filed on first day of 2026

The New Year began with new hopes and enthusiasm as the first judicial day at the Rawalpindi Judicial Complex passed.
The first day of the New Year also coincided with the final winter holiday, due to which no significant judicial progress took place in the district judiciary.
However, in the filing branch of family courts, 56 new divorce cases were filed on the first day.
Under the new Christian Marriage Act, a Christian woman also approached the court to seek divorce.
The first hearings of the newly filed family cases will be conducted by a senior civil judge on January 2. On the first day, bail applications of 21 accused involved in murder, robbery and narcotics cases were filed.
Bail was granted to 17 arrested accused involved in kite flying, aerial firing and kite selling cases. Overall, duty judges granted physical remand of 37 accused on the first day of the new year.
A total of 21 accused were sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand, arrest warrants were issued for seven accused, while five accused were declared proclaimed offenders. Salaries of three police officials, two patwaris, two girdawars and one naib tehsildar were stopped. Session, civil, family and magistrate courts across Rawalpindi and the province reopened on January 2.
