Ling Chao’s agency has responded after videos showed the singer confronting a stalker fan, prompting debate online

Ling Chao, a member of Chinese boy group ONER and a former contestant on Idol Producer, has publicly addressed a confrontation with a stalker fan after videos of the incident spread widely online.
The footage, shared across social media platforms, shows the 24-year-old singer confronting an individual who had reportedly been following him for an extended period.

According to reporting referenced by News18 and discussions on Chinese social media, the fan involved had repeatedly crossed personal boundaries.
The individual was alleged to have previously entered Ling Chao’s hotel room without permission, taken personal belongings and later taunted him with messages, including signs stating that it was “no use calling the police”.
The videos prompted immediate reaction online, with viewers questioning whether the confrontation involved physical violence. In response, Ling Chao’s agency released a clarification stating that no physical assault occurred.
The company explained that the singer only damaged the fan’s mobile phone screen during the confrontation and that the situation did not escalate beyond that point.
The agency further confirmed that the matter had been resolved privately. Compensation was reportedly paid for the damaged phone, and no further legal action is currently being pursued by either party.
Online reactions have been divided following the clarification. Some social media users criticised Ling Chao’s actions, arguing that any physical response to a fan is unacceptable regardless of circumstances.
Others defended the singer, stating that the repeated intrusions into his private space constituted stalking and left him with limited options to protect himself.
The incident has renewed discussion around stalking and obsessive fan behaviour in the entertainment industry, particularly involving young idols.
Fans commenting on the situation have pointed to the alleged hotel intrusion and repeated harassment as evidence that the situation had escalated beyond ordinary fan conduct.
Neither Ling Chao nor his agency has indicated whether additional measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
