One traffic death every 10 hours: Karachi's deadly year in numbers
Chhipa Foundation's report highlights fatal car crashes, violent shootings, people drowning in drains and more

The Chhipa Foundation has released the complete statistics for the deaths and injuries in various accidents, incidents, and other tragedies that occurred in Karachi in 2025.
According to Chhipa Foundation's spokesperson, Chaudhry Shahid Hussain, the foundation continued its humanitarian and relief activities in 2025, maintaining its 40-year-old tradition of service to humanity. Under the guidance of renowned social leader Muhammad Ramzan Chhipa, the foundation's ambulance and rescue teams played a key role in providing immediate emergency relief during various accidents and incidents.

The spokesperson further revealed the numbers for fatalities and injuries caused by various accidents and incidents in Karachi in 2025. Traffic accidents were the most prevalent this year, with 857 individuals killed, including 670 men, 89 women, 74 boys, and 24 girls. The number of injuries from traffic accidents reached 12,188, with 9,550 men, 1,904 women, 563 children, and 171 girls affected.
According to the Chhipa Foundation's statement, 91 citizens have been murdered in the city so far this year during attempted robberies. In contrast, 15 robbers have been killed and 35 injured by citizens' counterattacks.
The spokesperson also stated that 419 people have died in various shooting incidents this year, including 362 men, 34 women, 15 children, and 8 girls. The total number of people injured in these shooting incidents stands at 1,659, consisting of 1,383 men, 160 women, 83 children, and 33 girls.
The foundation also reported 23 cases where tortured bodies were found, including 13 men, 7 women, 2 children, and 1 girl. Among these, 5 bodies were found in sacks, comprising 3 men, 1 woman, and 1 girl, while 46 people were murdered with knives, including 36 men and 10 women.
Additionally, a blast at a firecracker factory in Karachi claimed the lives of 5 people and injured 31 others.
Chhipa Foundation also issued statistics on other incidents in the city, such as gas cylinder explosions that killed 11 people (7 men, 3 women, and 1 child), with 40 others injured. Furthermore, 76 people died after falling from rooftops, 19 were killed due to roof collapses, and 51 died in train accidents. Additionally, 85 people drowned, and 21 people perished in fires. In electrocution incidents, 133 individuals died, while 15 people died by falling into open sewers, including 9 men and 6 children.
The foundation also reported that 13 individuals drowned in open drains, and 123 people committed suicide this year, including 107 men and 16 women.

Chhipa Foundation's press release also mentioned that the bodies of 263 individuals who died from natural causes were transferred to hospitals. Furthermore, 35 newborns' bodies were found across various locations.
Due to excessive drug use, the bodies of 395 men and 5 women were recovered from different areas of the city, most of them being unclaimed. These unclaimed bodies were transported to the Chhipa morgue, washed, shrouded, and buried at the Chhipa cemetery.
