Motorbikes without safety wires banned during Basant in Lahore

Lahore Divisional Commissioner Marryam Khan has instructed the district administration to implement the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025 for a safe Basant celebration.
Chairing a meeting on Tuesday, she said the 'Safe Basant' will be celebrated in the district from February 6 to 8. The commissioner said kite flying is not allowed before February 6. She said the sale of kites and strings will be allowed only from February 1 to 8.
Khan said that under the ordinance, no motorcycle without safety wires will be allowed on city roads during the three-day Basant festival.

Production of kite flying material will be allowed only in Lahore. A crackdown will be launched on the activity in other districts. The commissioner directed the officials of nearby districts to crack down on kite flying in their areas. She said all assistant commissioners must immediately launch the crackdown, as there is no space for negligence in the implementation of the Kite Flying Ordinance.
Khan said online registration of kite and string manufacturers, traders, and sellers has been started through the e-Biz app. Only registered manufacturers and traders will be allowed to do the business. The manufacturing and trading of permitted sizes of kites and string types will be allowed until February 8.

The commissioner said the notification of the Lahore District administration under the Kite Flying Ordinance must be strictly implemented. Under the ordinance, motorcycle riders will be required to install safety wires. The use of kite flying material, prescribed in the ordinance and notification, will be permitted. All registered manufacturers, traders, and sellers will be required to display their certificates. Violation of the rules will lead to strict legal action.
She said all departments will support the district administration and police during the cultural festival. There will be no compromise on the safety of citizens, she added.
