'Stranger Things' fans spot wardrobe error involving modern brand in final season episode
Viewers questioned a clothing detail in season 5 after spotting brand founded years after the show’s timeline

A wardrobe detail in Netflix’s series Stranger Things has prompted criticism from viewers after a modern clothing brand appeared in an episode set in the 1980s.
Fans identified the issue in episode seven of the second part of season five, which features Nell Fisher as Holly Wheeler.
The series, which is set primarily during the mid to late 1980s, is known among fans for its attention to period detail and continuity.
However, during a scene in which Holly is shown attempting to escape from Vecna, viewers noticed she was wearing an Under Armour undershirt. The brand was founded in 1996, nearly a decade after the timeframe depicted in the show.
The brief appearance was enough to spark discussion online, particularly on X, where fans shared screenshots and comments highlighting the discrepancy. One user, @photogoblinxx, wrote, “Hey what’s this under armour shirt doing on Holly?? Under armour didn’t come out until 1996 #StrangerThings5 @Stranger_Things.”
Another user, @ArpitAgar_Aurum, also questioned the detail, writing, “Wait a minute… Holly is wearing Under Armour in 1987?? Brand invented in 1996??” The same post compared the moment to a widely discussed continuity mistake in Game of Thrones, when a modern coffee cup appeared on screen during its final season.
Some fans speculated about the cause of the oversight. An X user, @JonnyRoot, suggested production priorities may have played a role, writing, “If Stranger Things didn’t spend 24 HOURS in filming/reshoots for Will’s ‘coming out’ scene, they wouldn’t miss Holly Wheeler wearing a company’s shirt that didn’t even exist in the 80s (Under Amour).” The post also referenced the Game of Thrones incident.
Netflix has not commented publicly on the wardrobe error. The eighth and final episode of Stranger Things is scheduled to be released on the platform on December 31, bringing the series to a close after five seasons.
