White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has announced that she is expecting her second child with her husband, Nicholas Riccio. The 28-year-old shared the news on Instagram, revealing that the couple are expecting a baby girl in May 2026.
In photographs posted to social media, Leavitt is pictured standing in front of a Christmas tree while holding her stomach.
In the caption, she wrote, “The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for - a baby girl coming in May 2026.☺️ My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother.”
Leavitt and Riccio are already parents to a son, Nicholas Robert Riccio, known as Niko, who was born on July 10 2024. The couple became engaged during the Christmas holiday in 2023.
A senior White House official told Fox News that Leavitt will remain in her position during the pregnancy, which would make her the first pregnant White House press secretary. PEOPLE has contacted the White House for comment.
Leavitt previously returned to work shortly after the birth of her son, resuming duties on Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. In an October 2024 interview with The Conservateur, she said, “I looked at my husband and said, ‘Looks like I’m going back to work.’”
The pregnancy announcement comes weeks after Bruna Caroline Ferreira, the mother of Leavitt’s nephew and godson, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in November. Leavitt has not publicly commented on the arrest, and a source told PEOPLE that she has not spoken with Ferreira in many years.
Ferreira later spoke publicly about her detention, disputing claims made about her immigration status and legal history. She was released from an ICE processing centre following an immigration judge’s order.
