Tom Cruise unveils 2026 film title with teaser
Tom Cruise has revealed his 2026 film title with a teaser as the line “In Digger we trust” fuels intrigue

Tom Cruise has officially confirmed the title of his long rumoured 2026 project, revealing the film will be called ‘Digger’. The announcement arrived alongside an enigmatic teaser trailer that offers only fragments of tone and character, immediately sparking discussion among fans and industry watchers alike. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the project marks the filmmaker’s first feature since 2022’s ‘Bardo’ and represents a notable tonal shift for both collaborators.
‘Digger’ is described as a comedy of catastrophic proportions, signalling a departure from the action driven spectacles Cruise has dominated in recent years. In the teaser, Cruise is seen dancing and carrying a spade, with little narrative context provided. The film’s tagline, “In Digger we trust”, appears prominently, reinforcing the sense that mystery is central to its early promotion.
According to an official synopsis released by Warner Bros, Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, described as the most powerful man in the world. The character embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the consequences of his own actions threaten global destruction. While the teaser avoids plot clarity, the description suggests a satirical edge paired with high stakes.
The film features an ensemble cast that includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy. Iñárritu both directs and produces the project, working from a script he co wrote with longtime collaborators Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Sabina Berman. Cruise also serves as a producer, continuing his growing involvement behind the scenes on major studio releases.
Visually, ‘Digger’ has already drawn attention through its poster design, which arranges the title’s letters vertically to form the shape of a figure holding a spade and wearing cowboy boots. The imagery leans into symbolism rather than spectacle, aligning with the director’s reputation for layered storytelling.
The film is scheduled for release in cinemas on 2 October 2026. Given Iñárritu’s history with the Venice Film Festival, industry observers are already speculating that the film could premiere there in September. His previous works ‘Birdman’, ‘21 Grams’ and ‘Bardo’ all debuted at the festival.
Cruise’s most recent release was ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’, which he has confirmed marked his final appearance as Ethan Hunt. With ‘Digger’, the actor appears poised to open a new chapter, stepping into unfamiliar tonal territory while collaborating with one of cinema’s most distinctive directors.
