Hotel room left filled with rubbish after guest’s two-year stay
Staff discovered severe mess after a guest checked out following a two-year stay

Hotel staff in northeastern China were left shocked after discovering a room packed floor-to-ceiling with rubbish following a guest’s checkout after more than two years.
The man, described by staff as a heavy online gamer, had been staying at a hotel in Changchun that caters to esports enthusiasts, offering high-end gaming equipment, fast internet and private rooms designed for extended stays.
According to employees, the guest was rarely seen outside his room during his stay, with some staff members saying they never encountered him at all. The full extent of the situation only became clear once he checked out.
Video footage shows takeaway containers, food wrappers, empty bottles and large quantities of used toilet paper piled throughout the room, with waste reaching several feet high in places. Furniture, including a table and gaming chairs, was almost completely buried. In the bathroom, soggy tissue paper reportedly rose higher than the toilet, while grime covered much of the floor.
Cleaning crews required three days to remove the rubbish and disinfect the room. Hotel management said visible damage remains and that renovation work will be necessary before the room can be rented again.
Staff said the guest still owes more than 10 days’ worth of unpaid accommodation fees, totalling nearly £300. The matter has not been reported to police, and hotel management said they do not currently plan to pursue further action.
