CDF Asim Munir meets Libyan military leaders to boost defence ties

Defence cooperation, training, regional security featured in talks between military leaders

Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, visited Libya on an official trip and met Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, and Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief.

A contingent of the Libyan Armed Forces presented a guard of honour to the Field Marshal Munir upon his arrival.

During the meeting with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security, and ways to enhance bilateral defence and military cooperation. They emphasised the importance of collaboration in training, capacity building, and counter-terrorism.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening defence ties with Libya based on shared interests.

Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and expressed interest in expanding defence cooperation with Pakistan.

In early December 2025, Field Marshal Asim Munir addressed a guard of honour ceremony in Rawalpindi, highlighting the historic significance of the newly established Defence Forces Headquarters. He described it as a crucial step in the evolving military landscape.

He said that, given the increasing and shifting threats, it is imperative to enhance multi-domain operations under a unified system of the three armed forces.
