Sargodha exceeds wheat sowing target for current season

The Sargodha division has successfully surpassed its wheat sowing target for the current season, achieving 101.30% of the assigned goal, according to a final report released on Tuesday. The division was given a target of cultivating wheat on 1.721 million acres, while actual sowing was completed on 1.743 million acres.
The report also noted a 0.15% increase in wheat cultivation compared to last year, highlighting steady growth in agricultural activity across the division. Officials described the achievement as a positive indicator for the region’s farming sector and overall agricultural performance.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, as well as the leadership of Sargodha Division Commissioner Jahanzeb Awan assisted in the success of this operation. Officials acknowledged that effective coordination, clear directives, and consistent monitoring played a key role in ensuring that targets were not only met but exceeded.
The Agriculture Department’s strategy was also widely praised. Officials said timely planning, farmer outreach, and administrative support helped create favourable conditions for wheat sowing. Local farmers were commended for their strong participation and cooperation throughout the sowing season.

District-wise performance figures showed encouraging results across the division. In Sargodha district, wheat was cultivated on 546,843 acres, exceeding the assigned target of 533,000 acres. Khushab district recorded cultivation on 281,866 acres, surpassing its target of 276,000 acres.
Mianwali district also slightly exceeded expectations, achieving wheat sowing on 468,183 acres against a target of 467,000 acres. Similarly, Bhakkar district recorded wheat cultivation on 446,414 acres, exceeding its target of 445,000 acres.
Agriculture Department officials stated that the overall success was due to timely support, strong farmer engagement, and effective administrative planning at both divisional and district levels. They added that the increase in wheat acreage is expected to boost agricultural production and contribute positively to food security across the province.
