Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR) Amir Mohyuddin chaired the weekly national coordination meeting on Thursday to review wheat seed movement, sowing progress and storage planning ahead of the harvest season. Officials from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Balochistan and federal food departments attended.
An official statement said, Punjab reported that all wheat seed requirements had been met. A total of 168,000 metric tonnes of private-sector seed and 196,000 metric tonnes from the Punjab Seed Corporation were supplied. Allocations included 23,000 metric tonnes to Balochistan, 82,000 to Sindh, 22,000 to K-P and 41,000 retained in Punjab. Daily convoy tracking confirmed smooth movement.
The ministry noted that some seed companies had filed a high court petition challenging existing seed movement SOPs.
Provinces also shared updates on sowing progress. Punjab reported that wheat sowing is in full swing, with 1.25 crore acres planted out of the 1.65 crore-acre target.
