KARACHI:

An administrative court of the Anti-Terrorism Court on Monday handed over nine suspects to the Special Investigation Unit on five-day physical remand in a case involving alleged police encounter, attempted murder, possession of illegal weapons, and offences under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to court proceedings, SIU officials produced the suspects before the ATC administrative judge. The accused were arrested during an operation conducted by the inquiry office in the Nazimabad No. 1 area, from Qadri House.

The arrested suspects were identified as Shahzaib, Jawad Qadri Shehbaz Khan, Aryan Ali, Muhammad Tahir, Muhammad Aslam, Mehdam Hassan, Aamir Swati, and Shoaib.

The IO informed the court that criminal record verification of the suspects was required and further interrogation was necessary to obtain information about their accomplices. He alleged that the suspects were part of an extortion network and that heavy weapons were recovered from their possession.

Defence counsel Abid Zaman and Osama Ali Advocate opposed the remand, arguing that all allegations against the accused were baseless. They maintained that the suspects were political workers and had been falsely implicated.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved a five-day physical remand of the suspect.
