Musician Nick Reiner speaks out after being mistaken for Rob Reiner’s son
A musician named Nick Reiner said he is not related to director Rob Reiner after online confusion

A musician named Nick Reiner has issued a public clarification after being mistakenly identified online as the son of late filmmaker Rob Reiner, following news of the director’s death.
The unrelated Nick Reiner said he began receiving a flood of messages on social media after reports emerged that Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14. Confusion over the shared name led some users to believe the musician was connected to the family.
In a statement shared on YouTube, the musician made clear he has no relation to the Reiners. “I’m not related to Rob and Michele Reiner,” he wrote, expressing sympathy for their loved ones and calling the situation “absolutely tragic.”
Shortly after addressing the confusion, the musician removed his Instagram account. In the comments on his video, one user suggested he consider using a different name temporarily, to which he responded that he had been confused by the sudden influx of unexpected messages.
Rob Reiner, 78, best known for directing The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were found dead in their home in what authorities are investigating as a homicide. According to reports, the couple sustained injuries consistent with a knife attack.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation. Multiple outlets have reported that the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, has been identified as the main suspect, though authorities have not announced any charges.
In a statement released through Variety, the Reiner family said they were “heartbroken by this sudden loss” and asked for privacy as the investigation continues.
The unrelated musician’s clarification comes amid widespread online discussion and misinformation surrounding the case, highlighting how rapidly confusion can spread in the wake of high-profile tragedies.
