Andy Serkis’ Animal Farm sets U.S. release as first trailer drops
Andy Serkis’ Animal Farm secures U.S. theatrical release with Angel as the star-studded first trailer debuts

Andy Serkis’ long-awaited animated adaptation of Animal Farm has officially secured U.S. theatrical distribution, with Angel acquiring rights and unveiling the film’s first trailer.
Based on George Orwell’s classic novella, the star-studded project will premiere in theaters nationwide on May 1, 2026.
The film features an ensemble voice cast including Seth Rogen, Glenn Close, Woody Harrelson, Kieran Culkin, Gaten Matarazzo, Laverne Cox, Jim Parsons, Kathleen Turner, and Iman Vellani. Serkis also lends his voice to Mr. Jones and Randolph the Rooster. Produced by Adam Nagle and Dave Rosenbaum for Aniventure, and Jonathan Cavendish for Imaginarium Productions, the animation was completed by Cinesite. The film debuted earlier this year at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Serkis emphasized the modern relevance of Orwell’s themes, noting the story’s continued resonance in an era shaped by political manipulation and inequality. “Orwell’s Animal Farm has never felt more relevant,” Serkis said. “This adaptation isn’t just entertainment — it’s a reminder that democracy and integrity must be protected.”
Angel, which rebranded from Angel Studios after going public in 2025, praised Serkis’ vision. Brandon Purdie, executive vice president of theatrical and brand development, said the film’s emotional weight and timely message will resonate with audiences. “Even with pigs and horses as protagonists, this is a deeply human story,” he added.
Aniventure CEO Adam Nagle expressed confidence in the partnership with Angel, highlighting the company’s strong connection with audiences and marketing reach.
With its high-profile cast, acclaimed director, and renewed cultural relevance, Animal Farm is positioned as one of 2026’s most anticipated animated releases. The debut trailer offers audiences their first look at Serkis’ bold and contemporary take on Orwell’s iconic allegory.
