Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO and co-founder, says he can’t imagine parenting without ChatGPT
Sam Altman says he “cannot imagine” raising a child without ChatGPT

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that ChatGPT has become an indispensable tool in raising his newborn son.
Altman explained that he often turns to the AI chatbot for everyday parenting questions, from minor developmental concerns to simple “is this normal?” moments.
He recounted that at a social gathering, when another parent mentioned their six-month-old was crawling, he felt concerned because his own child had not yet started crawling. Instead of worrying, Altman consulted ChatGPT, which reassured him that his son’s development was within a normal range.
“I cannot imagine having gone through, figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT,” he said.

Altman acknowledged that while parents managed without AI for decades, the support AI provides, especially reassurance and guidance at unpredictable hours, has been invaluable.
He and his husband welcomed their son earlier this year, and although they have kept their family life mostly private, Altman’s remarks highlight a broader trend: many parents are increasingly using AI tools as everyday support.
Experts note that while AI can be helpful for parenting guidance, it should complement, not replace, human judgment and professional medical advice.
