Gwen Stefani faces criticism for promoting Catholic prayer app linked to anti-abortion stance

Hallow's CEO Alex jones stated that the company “proudly and unequivocally” supports the pro-life stance

Gwen Stefani is receiving criticism following her latest promotional partnership with Hallow, the Catholic prayer and meditation app whose leadership has publicly affirmed an anti-abortion position.

The singer shared a collaborative post urging followers to join the platform for Advent and Christmas, prompting swift reaction online.

In the video, Stefani said, “It is important this holiday season to spend time in prayer. That is what Christmas is all about: letting God into our hearts and letting Jesus bring us his peace,” encouraging fans to “download Hallow today and join me and millions of others in praying every day this Advent and Christmas season on Hallow.”

Founded in 2018 by Alex Jones, Alessandro DiSanto and Erich Kerekes, Hallow is known for its collaborations with high-profile figures.

The app's CEO, Jones stated in 2023 that the company “proudly and unequivocally” supports “the pro-life stance of the Church and the USCCB’s affirmation of [the end of] abortion as the preeminent priority.”

Fans expressed frustration, with one writing, “I love you, Gwen but unfortunately I ain’t no Hallow app girl.” Selling Sunset's Chrishell Stause added, “Gwen-DON’T SPEAK. Please take your own advice on this one.” Others highlighted the singer’s LGBTQ+ fanbase, with one saying: “Lots of your fans are from the LGBTQ+ community and this feels like a deep betrayal.” Another comment read: “God is free, Gwen. Touch some grass.”

Stefani has previously endorsed Hallow for Lent and Christmas, including a 2024 campaign in which she discussed drifting from faith early in her music career before returning during a difficult period.
